Pianiste americain d’origine yougoslave, Ivan Ilic est né en 1978. Il est reçu à dix-sept ans à l’Université de Berkeley (Californie) dans la classe de Barbara Shearer. A Berkeley il travaille le piano, la composition, la musique de chambre, la direction d’orchestre, et l’improvisation. Il obtient un Premier Prix de piano à l’unanimité ainsi qu’un Bachelor’s of Arts en mathématiques. En 2000 il intègre le cycle de perfectionnement au Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de San Francisco avec Robert Helps.

En 2001 il s’installe à Paris grâce à une bourse de l’Université de Berkeley. Il est admis au Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris dont il sort avec un Premier Prix en 2003. Il reçoit ainsi le Diplôme à l’unanimité de l’École Normale de Musique de Paris « Alfred Cortot » où il travaille actuellement avec Christian Ivaldi. Il participe aux master-classes de François-René Duchâble, Aldo Ciccolini, Dmitri Bashkirov, Jacques Rouvier, Stephen Bishop Kovacevich,  et Paul Badura-Skoda. Il travaille la mélodie française avec François Le Roux, Noël Lee et Jeff Cohen. En 2004-5 il intègre un cycle de perfectionnement à l’École Normale dans la classe de François-René Duchâble.

Lauréat de la Hertz Memorial Traveling Fellowship, de la Fondation John Ernest, de la Fondation Helen von Ammon, du Eisner Prize, de la Fondation des États-Unis à Paris, d’une bourse  Paris Jeunes Talents  (de la Mairie de Paris) et du Mary Nunes Souza Award, il reçoit plusieurs premiers prix de concours internationaux, notamment aux concours Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship Competition, U.C. Berkeley Concerto Competition, Berkeley Lyric Opera Orchestra Competition, et Rabinowitsch Piano Competition.

Depuis son installation en France Ivan Ilic s’est vite affirmé comme l’un de artistes actuels promis au plus grand avenir. Il s’est déjà produit aux États-Unis, au Royaume-Uni, en Yougoslavie, en Irlande, en République Tchèque, en Belgique et en France. Il bâtit son répertoire dans la lignée d'une grande tradition romantique : il visite les plus grandes pages du répertoire, qu'il s'agisse de Schumann, Beethoven, Chopin ou Brahms.

Ses récitals sont émis sur plusieurs chaines de télévisions yougoslaves et la presse américaine, yougoslave et française lui réservent un bon accueil.

A rising star on the Parisian classical music scene, twenty-six year old pianist Ivan Ilic is quickly gaining international recognition for his “unique blend of a Gallic touch, a Slavic soul and a mathematician’s precision.”

Ivan started musical studies at the age of six and gave his recital debut at the age of eleven. He went on to take degrees in music and mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley. After capturing all of Berkeley’s music awards, including First Prize in the Concerto Competition, an Eisner Prize, First Prize in the Senior Recital Competition, and a Mary J. Nunes travel grant to the Aspen Summer Music Festival, he left for Paris on an Alfred Hertz Memorial Traveling Fellowship from the university.

One month later Ivan was admitted to the esteemed Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, where he was awarded a “Premier Prix” in piano performance, followed by a “Diplôme à l’Unanimité” from the École Normale de Musique, “Alfred Cortot” in Paris. Before turning twenty he had launched an international career of solo and chamber music recitals that has taken him to Belgium, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the former Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic, the United States and throughout France.

During his studies he took public classes with the following master-pianists: François-René Duchâble, Dmitri Bashkirov, Jacques Rouvier, Stephen Bishop Kovacevich, Paul Badura-Skoda and Aldo Ciccolini.

In 2004 Ivan was the recipient of awards, fellowships and grants from: the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, the Fondation des États-Unis (Paris), the Karic Foundation (Belgrade), the John Ernest Foundation (California), and the Helen von Ammon Fund for Emerging Artists (San Francisco). The City of Paris is sponsoring his next recording.

Ivan has been the subject of television and radio interviews in the United States, France, and the former Yugoslavia. His first tour of Serbia, in June 2004, was televised nationally.
